Remember childhood? That time when you could be carefree and wearing a cape to mock fly across a room was an everyday thing. In the hustle and bustle of today we tend to forget the innocence of that time gone by.
Hoppipola with its roots in Bangalore and Pune is trying to bring the magic back with its latest outpost in Khar.
A part of the Speciality Group of Restaurants it draws inspiration from its name which means Jumping into puddles in Finnish. Fits quite nicely into the Indian context as well, especially due to the fact that we get so much rain and have so many puddles.
The space is located right next to Ramee Guestline near Khar station. Be very careful to go to the West though. I managed to get lost and believe me that was anything but a nice experience. Primarily due to the fact that Khar has a ginormous bridge to cross when crossing from East to West. Never a fun experience when you get lost on the way to a event as I did.
I ended up being extremely late for the event due to getting lost, however luckily managed to be there for all the fun bits of the evening.
Hoppipola's aim is to be the fun space that lets you relive the magic of childhood in an adult setting.
With bright colors and a high ceiling from which hang model airplanes it almost seems like I've stepped into a school fair, good memories associated with those so this place warms the heart.
It has massive circular stained glass on one side with a elevated DJ console on the other. There are two sections one outdoor and one indoor, quirky and fun is the expression that comes to mind when I think about about it.
Hoppipola has a broad menu with a large variety of food and quirky names to go along with them, certainly some which will make you smile and perhaps bring back a memory or two of the days gone by.
We went for the pre launch and for the vegetarians they served us crumb fried mushrooms, a delicious thin crust pizza as well as garlic bread with cheese.
Unfortunately the chef was a bit heavy handed with the salt and that came through on all the dishes we had that day.
Since then I've heard numerous reports of people going and good things are being said about the food so points to them for acting quickly to feedback.
The highlight of the space though is all the awesome games you can indulge in be it board games over a few drinks with friends or beer games!
The beer games they have are quite a lot of fun and you even get to appear on a scoreboard for bragging rights.
We ended the night with some nice Wine Sangria pitchers and a crazy game of Jenga in which yours truly had to do the can can as well as a mercifully short belly dance.
My suggestion? Go have a Hoppitime with low priced drinks and good food. If your lucky enough to have a few girls along with you make sure they try their luck with the beautiful bird houses and maybe they will win a shot.
